Historic Flight at Deer Valley

Historic Flight brought a Douglas DC-3C and a North American B-25D Mitchell to the Deer Valley Airport over the wekend of March 17-18, 2018.

Historic Flight Foundation North American B-25D Mitchell N88972 Grumpy was ordered by the Army Air Force as 43-3318. Its construction number is 100-20644. It was ordered by the Royal Air Foprce as KL161 but was diverted to the Royal Canadian Air Force as KL161. Joe E. Goldney of Vancouver, British Colubia acquired it in February 1962 and registered it as CF-OGQ. Sports Air Incorporated of Seattle, Washington bought it in March 1966 and registered it as N88972. It was converted to a fire fighting tanker in August 1967. It passed through the hands of North Star Aviation Corporation and Colco Aviation of Fairbanks, Alaska. Noel Merrill Wien of Anchorage, Alaska acquired it in May 1980. Robert J. Pond of Plymounth, Minnesota acquired it in October 1987 and exported it to the Fighter Collection at Duxford, United Kingdon on November 7, 1987 where it Flew as KL161 Grumpy. It was registered as G-BYDR on March 22, 1999. Paul G. Allen and Vulcan Warbirds Incorporated of Seattle, Washington bought it in 2002 and registered it as N25644. It was ferried to Seattle, Washington in 2008. John T. Sessions and Historic Flight Foundation of Seattle, Washington acquired it on March 20, 2009 and registered it as N88972.

Historic Flight Foundation Douglas Douglas DC-3C N877MG in Pan American Airways livery was originally delivered to the Army Air Force as C-47B 43-16340 on July 31, 1944. Its construction number is 20806. It was transferred to China National Aviation Corporation on August 16, 1944. C.L. Chennault and W. Willaur registered it as N8350C in December 1949. Grand Central Aircraft registered it as N37800 on May 27, 1953. Johnson & Johnson acquired it on October 22, 1953 and registered it as N800J. S.A. Tampos and G. Nash registered it as N8009 on June 22, 1959. Tiburzi Tours Incorporated acquired it in April 1971. Club Passport Incorporated acquired it in May 1971. Air Nashua Corporation acquired it in 1975. International Shoe Machine Corporation acquired it on July 6, 1978. Victoria Forest & Scout LLC registered it as N877MG on January 23, 1996. Historic Flight Foundation acquired it on October 31, 2012.
